WOMEN opposing western culture is like a chicken opposing KFC.
Read this comment by a boy. Two questions which must spring up. What exactly is western culture? What are Indian men doing for protecting their Bhartiya Sanskriti (of which they have very little knowledge)? And yes, I’m definitely not talking about “all men” but a majority of them. To begin with let us ponder over the following questions:
When did the use of BLOUSES start in India?
Why does ghoongat pratha prevalent in North India but it is considered unfortunate in south India?
Why do WEDDINGS in north India happen at night and not in morning?
What was the position of women in the early Rig vedic period (1500- 1000BC)?
What type of clothing was worn by men and women before BRITISH era or even before Mughal invasion?
Is GHOONGAT PRATHA Indian in origin or was it brought by some invaders after 712AD?
When and why were the principles of modesty, respect begun to be attached with one’s clothing?
I think the answers to these questions might unravel the distinction between INDIAN and WESTERN at least to some extent.

Coming back to the very first line, that comment; why do the respected preservers of our traditions while targeting modernization and westernization only talk about the aspect of clothing and that too for only one gender: WOMEN. Why not target all: From toilets to Houses, from meals to Conveyance and more. How many men wear traditionals regularly or how many know what exactly traditionals are for males, please not the KURTA PYJAMA. Do we not know that Shirts, pants, Suits are not INDIAN? Why do men mock the males who learn classical dances? Why wearing jewellery not manly enough?
Is it the duty of females only to stick to the so-called culture for protecting it? Regardless of a yes or no to this question it is women who are constantly continuing age-old traditions, some are happily commingling them with the modern ways of life. They wear sarees, Suits, Ghagra and what not. Women coming from UP, MP, ANDHRA, etc. etc. preserve their ethnicity by performing all venerations and customs to the exact detailing. Of course, exceptions are everywhere, some Men also do know about traditions. Women from areas like Delhi, Pune, Mumbai are balancing traditions with modernity. While doing 9 to 5 they are happily fasting for their husbands. As soon as they go to their in laws they are willingly changing into saree. How many men change their outfit just because they are going to meet their parents or in laws?
Also are the turbans Indian in origin or KUSHANS brought with them to India ?
The point is not all we do, eat, wear in contemporary is completely Indian in character. Cultures have always intermingled and given birth to something new. Then why only women are targeted when most of them are still living with the doomed societal norms stopping them from living once with freedom of choice? Nobody can LIVE WITH EXTREME POSITIONS. You cannot completely abandon everything modern, CAN YOU? Women love Kurtis, sarees or whatever their traditional are. But can they not have best of both worlds? BALANCE and INTERMINGLING are not always bad. It’s BIG 2026. LET LIVE AND LET WOMEN LIVE. LET THEM FOR ONCE BE HUMANS AND NOT AN INFERIOR GENDER SUBJECTED TO THE NEEDS OF MEN.
TO ALL THE LADIES WHO’RE LIVING BOTH FOR THEMSELVES AND THIER FAMILY, (including my mother), HAPPIEST WOMEN’S DAY.
May we soon transition to a WORLD WHICH HAS SPACE FOR BOTH WOMEN AND MEN; EQUALLY!
