HAVE INDIANS BECOME APATHETIC?
Apathy resembles ignorance and represents the state of mind of the people who choose to be apolitical even while being an independent citizen of the largest democracy in the world.
Where this apathy comes from? Maybe it comes when people become complacent. Complacency is the state of utmost satisfaction along with the acceptance of the status quo. What is the extent to which one can be complacent? Until the consequences of this curb the one embracing it. Suddenly they will be upset, angered not just with the government but with everyone. Suddenly they’ll read the clauses of the constitution to find the redressal of their grievances and suddenly they will become political. Why can’t they care when it comes to others rather than waiting the problem to bridle them? Maybe because they are not educated enough to be political or maybe they are just not human enough to be empathetic.

Every time a protest, a voice arises against wrong like the current Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike, a majority chooses apathy, maybe because they don’t think that they can do anything about the issue, maybe it contradicts their political alignment, maybe they choose to neglect the urgency or maybe they assume talking about it, or simply sharing thoughts on stories, status or any platform yields nothing. I cannot agree much on the social media aspect while living in a highly digitized decade where internet makes or breaks the issue.
Does it take more for the People of the Republic of India to finally see, feel and think?
“CJP is anti-national?” “Sonam Wangchuk is not really fasting.” “This is to only form narrative against the ruling party.” “What good will happen to the affected students by doing protest?”
Maybe nothing much of huge significance will happen, but at least there is a conscience against a very sensitive issue, at least we are finally starting somewhere even though the very highly attributed, NEET exam has seen the dysfunctional paper leak not once, not twice but FIVE scandals between 2015 & 2026: 2015 (AIPMT), 2016 (NEET PHASE II), 2021&2024 ( Papers stolen in Jharkhand and Bihar), and 2026 ( First instance of NTA officially cancelling and rescheduling the highly coveted medical entrance examination). On top of that it took some 12 to 20 aspiring children to commit suicide for the protest to happen, for the outrage to be acknowledged, not by the authorities but by few people who still strive for the INDIA once our freedom fighters dreamt of, who still are responsible enough to be politically civic and who still are humans after all.
Apathy harms democracy; don’t let your neutrality become your complicity. An informed, active, inquisitive citizenry keeps Democracy functional and thriving. JAB JAAGO, TABHI SAVERA.
JAI HIND.
